Rejuvenation surgery of the face is an increasingly popular procedure and more and more patients are seeking the advice of facial plastic surgeons. Facelift or rhytidectomy is the surgical procedure that addresses the aging changes of the lower two thirds of the face. Healthier lifestyles and a more active population has led people to feel and act younger than they otherwise look and start looking for options that will help them look better.
A facelift allows us to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and neck by improving the sagging and loose soft tissues that invariably begin to develop in all of us as we age.
There are many types of facelifts and Dr. Gantous will help you decide which is the best kind of lift for you. Minilifts or short flap lifts are best suited for younger patients or those that just need a little pull in order to improve their condition. These type of lifts are less invasive and have shorter recovery times, but the results are not the same as those achieved with standard facelifts. SMAS lifts are the most commonly performed by Dr. Gantous, but some patients will opt for deep plane facelifts or are best suited for them.
This is achieved by placing incisions around the ears, temples and scalp through which we can tighten and contour the underlying muscle layers and excise redundant skin. Often, we perform other procedures such as eyelifts, forehead or brow lifts and chin implants at the same time. The incisions are altered a bit in males in order to prevent hair bearing skin to be moved into areas where there shouldn’t be any hair.

The recovery from a facelift is not very painful in most patients. There is some expected bruising and swelling of the operated area. A comfortable dressing is applied and removed on the first day after surgery. Ice packs are recommended for the first two or three days to help ease swelling. Stitches are removed in four or five days. Make up can be applied after one week and the incisions can be covered or camouflaged by changing the hairstyle if needed. The swelling and bruising disappear by two weeks and most people are able to resume their normal activities at that time.
