Enhance Your Appearance with a Rhinoplasty by Dr. Gantous
Rhinoplasty or nose job is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in North America. People of all ages seek medical advice to modify the appearance and function of their noses. The nose is the centre of the face and the first thing most people see when looking at each other. A nose that is deformed, too big, too small or too wide detracts from the beauty of other features and can detract from the harmony of the face. Even small alterations in the shape of the nose can significantly improve one’s appearance. The goal of rhinoplasty is to improve the nose aesthetically while creating harmony with the other facial features.

Rhinoplasty surgery allows us to reshape, reduce, augment and modify a nose in order to make it look and function better. Dr. Gantous has dedicated his career to perfect this operation by obtaining reliable and consistent results even in the most difficult cases. Before the nose is altered, a young patient must reach full growth, usually around age fifteen or sixteen. Exceptions are cases in which breathing is severely impaired. Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, but can be done with local anesthesia and sedation. It is a day surgery meaning that the patient can go home a few hours after the operation is complete. The operation is done in two different ways:
The closed or endonasal approach is the traditional way where incisions are made in the inside of the nose and the changes of the nose carried out through these cuts. The open or external approach is where an incision is made in the skin between the nostrils and the skin is elevated off the cartilage and bone allowing direct visualization of the changes that are being made. Dr. Gantous will take time after your assessment to discuss the pros and cons of each approach and help you decide which is best for you. Important factors that will affect the decision of which technique to use include:
- Skin type
- Ethnic background
- History of previous surgery or trauma
- History of nasal obstruction or breathing problems
Patients often choose to have a chin augmentation done at the same time as a rhinoplasty in order to balance the facial features.
