Facelift

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is the surgical procedure that addresses the visible signs of aging affecting the appearance of the lower two-thirds of the face. Active, healthier lifestyles have led people to feel and act younger than they may otherwise appear; inspiring them to seek options that may help them to look better.

Over the years, Dr. Andres Gantous has performed numerous types of facelift procedures in Toronto. He has developed a personal technique that focuses on providing noticeable results but look as natural and beautiful as possible.

Is a Facelift Right For Me?

Rejuvenation surgery of the face is an increasingly popular procedure. More and more patients are seeking the advice of facial plastic surgeons. A facelift allows us to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and neck by improving the sagging and loose soft tissues that invariably begin to develop in all of us as we age.

The Different Types of Facelifts

There are many types of facelifts and Dr. Gantous will help you decide which is the best kind of lift for you. Dr. Gantous prefers the deep plane facelift technique due to its anatomical advantages and ability to really reposition the facial and neck tissues. This type of lift provides very natural and long lasting results. Some patients may elect to have a more limited SMAS facelift and this too delivers excellent results in the well selected patient. Facelift surgery is performed by making well hidden incisions around the ears and along the hairline on top and behind the ear. The deeper muscle layer and overlying soft tissues are then mobilized and fixed where desired and the excessive and redundant skin is excised.

Mini-lifts (or short-flap lifts) are best suited for younger patients or those that just need a little pull in order to improve their condition. These types of lifts are less invasive and have shorter recovery times, but the results are not the same as those achieved with standard facelifts.

Combining Your Facelift With Other Procedures

Often, we perform other procedures such as eyelid lifts, forehead or brow lifts and chin implants at the same time. The incisions are altered a bit in males in order to prevent hair-bearing skin to be moved into areas where there shouldn’t be any hair.

Facelift Recovery

The recovery from a facelift is not very painful in most patients. There is some expected bruising and swelling of the operated area. A comfortable dressing is applied and removed on the first day after surgery. Ice packs are recommended for the first two or three days to help ease swelling. Stitches are removed in four or five days.

Makeup can be applied after one week and the incisions can be covered or camouflaged by changing the hairstyle if needed. The swelling and bruising disappear by two weeks and most people are able to resume their normal activities at that time.
