A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that addresses the visible signs of aging affecting the appearance of the lower two-thirds of the face. Active, healthier lifestyles have led people to feel and act younger than they may otherwise appear; inspiring them to seek options that may help them to look better.

Is a Facelift
Right For Me?

Over time, skin loses volume, begins to look sunken, and develops age or sun spots, in addition to wrinkles and fine lines. Even the most elaborate skincare routines aren’t always sufficient to prevent these things from happening. Fortunately, there are cosmetic procedures to combat the signs of aging and restore your skin to its former glory.

A facelift is a procedure that aims to restore your youthful appearance by removing several layers of skin from your face. Excess sagging skin and fat deposits are also extracted, and the skin of the face is pulled back to give a tighter and smoother result. Facelifts are often performed in conjunction with other facial cosmetic procedures including eyelid lifts, neck lifts, and lip injections. If you’re unhappy with the way your face is looking lately and would like to make a positive change in your life, then undergoing a facelift procedure could be the right choice for you!

Facelift FAQ

  • Deep Plane/SMAS Facelift

The purpose of a deep plane facelift is to eliminate the look of sagging skin at the base of the chin and neck by lifting up and strengthening the lax muscles in that portion of the face. Dr. Gantous prefers the deep plane facelift technique due to its anatomical advantages and ability to really reposition the facial and neck tissues. This type of lift provides very natural and long lasting results.

  • Mini Facelift

Mini-lifts (or short-flap lifts) are best suited for younger patients or those that just need a little pull in order to improve their condition. These types of lifts are less invasive and have shorter recovery times, but the results are not the same as those achieved with standard facelifts.

Facelift surgery is performed by making well hidden incisions around the ears and along the hairline on top and behind the ear. The deeper muscle layer and overlying soft tissues are then mobilized and fixed where desired and the excessive and redundant skin is excised.

The recovery from a facelift is not very painful in most patients. There is some expected bruising and swelling of the operated area. A comfortable dressing is applied and removed on the first day after surgery. Ice packs are recommended for the first two or three days to help ease swelling. Stitches are removed in four or five days.

Makeup can be applied after one week and the incisions can be covered or camouflaged by changing the hairstyle if needed. The swelling and bruising disappear by two weeks and most people are able to resume their normal activities at that time.
