Lumecca IPL Treatment

Do you have noticeable and embarrassing red spots, acne scars, freckles, age spots, rosacea, blotchiness, or other skin conditions? Have you tried every conceivable over-the-counter skin cream, ointment, oil, or buffer to try to reduce the appearance of your skin condition’s symptoms? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions and can relate to these situations, then it may be time to consider the Lumecca IPL skin rejuvenation treatment.

What Is Lumecca And How Does It Work?

What is an IPL treatment? IPL stands for intense pulsed light, which is a state-of-the-art non-invasive and minimally painful form of treatment that’s currently transforming the very face of skin rejuvenation. This treatment actively works to correct years of skin damage caused by excessive exposure to and lack of protection from the harmful UV rays of the sun. As a result, it can make you look years younger almost instantaneously.

Lumecca treats vascular and pigmented lesions to help reduce the look of aging throughout your entire body including the décolletage, the hands, the arms, legs, neck, face, and anywhere else that you might notice sun or age spots.

The procedure itself is very simple and painless. During the treatment session, Dr. Andres Gantous at Toronto Facial Plastic Surgery will use a handheld device to produce a flash of light and mild vibrations across the affected areas of your skin. Since Lumecca, which uses photothermolysis, is the strongest IPL treatment currently available, most procedures can be done in just a few short sessions.

What Are The Key Benefits Of The Lumecca IPL Treatment?

The most noteworthy benefits of the Lumecca IPL treatment are the following:

  • Non-invasive
  • Completely painless (the most you might feel is a slight warm sensation or pinch on the treated portion of your skin)
  • Outpatient procedure, which means it can be done in your doctor’s office
  • Only 2-3 sessions are typically required for optimal results, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences
  • Diminishes several signs of aging, including vascular lesions (spider veins), sun damage, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation
  • Less treatment time compared to standard IPL because of high pulse and repetition rate
  • The sapphire tip provides a much-needed post-treatment cooling sensation to help reduce redness during aftercare and recovery period
  • Minimal recovery period—you should be able to return to your normal activities following treatment without any disruptions
  • Non-surgical procedure that works on the surface of the skin

Why Is Lumecca IPL Better Than Standard IPL Treatments?

There are a few reasons why Lumecca IPL is far superior to standard IPL treatments. While standard IPL treatments are designed to treat a variety of physical conditions including hair removal, hair growth stimulation, and skin treatments, Lumecca focuses almost exclusively on skin rejuvenation and diminishing the look of age spots throughout the body.

Lumecca, therefore, uses a much stronger and more focused photo rejuvenation technique provide younger-looking, firmer, and smoother skin.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated with Lumecca?

Since Lumecca is a skin rejuvenation treatment technique, it can treat pretty much any part of the body. But, most people tend to focus on the only the most visible parts of their bodies that demonstrate signs of aging, including:

  • The backs of the hands
  • The forearms
  • The upper arms
  • The thighs
  • The legs
  • The shins
  • The face
  • The neck
  • The décolletage

If your main goal is to eliminate sun damage and take about a decade off the look of your face and entire body, then Lumecca is a safe, convenient, affordable, and effective option.

How Can You Prepare for Lumecca IPL Treatment?

As with any type of non-surgical or surgical cosmetic procedure, it’s important to take the necessary steps to prepare in advance. First and foremost, you’re going to have to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gantous at Toronto Facial Plastic Surgery.

During that consultation, Dr. Gantous will carefully examine the condition of your skin, listen to your concerns and preferences, and then make appropriate treatment recommendations. Once he’s determined what type of treatment is necessary to correct your specific skin condition, Dr. Gantous will explain the techniques he uses so that you’ll be fully aware of and comfortable with the entire procedure. All of your questions will also be answered during this time.

To prepare for Lumecca, you should try to avoid direct sun exposure and tanning sessions at least one month before the procedure. This will just exacerbate your existing skin condition and result in more treatment sessions later on.

What Can You Expect During and After Lumecca Treatment?

During the procedure, you’ll notice a flash of light coming from the handheld device as Dr. Gantous slowly and gently moves it up and down the impacted area. You’ll also notice a slight warm sensation on the treated areas.

Immediately following treatment, you’ll see bright red spots where the light made contact with your skin. This is perfectly normal and should subside within approximately 24-48 hours. Once the redness is completely gone, you may notice that the pigmented areas are darker than before the procedure. This is also normal. Within a few days, those pigmented areas will scab and flake off on their own. To prevent infection, please refrain from picking at the scabs and allow them to heal naturally. Throughout this process, your skin is healing, regenerating, and evening itself out.

The healing process can take anywhere from one to two weeks. After that, you should start to notice beautiful, clear, even, smooth, and younger looking skin.

The number of sessions depends largely on the amount and mass of areas that require treatment. Most patients only need about 1 or 2 treatment sessions, but others may require 4 to 6 sessions.
