An Endoscopic Brow Lift Makes Removing Deep Forehead Wrinkles Easier

Published on July 10, 2019

As the years go by, the skin starts to show signs of aging. Facial wrinkling is one of the defining attributes of skin aging. Wrinkles are caused by factors like genetics, habitual facial expressions, sun damage, smoking, poor nutrition, and pollution.

Of all the different types of age lines, deep forehead wrinkles are the most prominent. They are also called worry lines. Wrinkles and drooping eyebrows create an aged and tired appearance. Though these signs of aging are inevitable, a brow lift can reverse them.

The Brow Lift

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, can remove excess sagging skin on the forehead and reposition the underlying tissues. This procedure corrects heavy and sagging brows, eliminates deep furrows, and restores smooth youthful contours to the forehead.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift Technique

The use of endoscopes has revolutionized facial rejuvenation. An endoscope is a long thin tube with a light and a camera. This medical tool transmits images to an external monitor, allowing surgeons to see the internal structures of the facial tissues in extreme detail for greater accuracy.

The endoscopic brow lift was introduced as an alternative procedure to the standard coronal brow lift and has become quite popular. It is a more minimally invasive technique and is mostly suitable for individuals with mild to moderate aging issues. It can be performed with other facial-rejuvenation procedures for more comprehensive results.

Because the technique is less invasive, there is a smaller degree of post-surgical bruising and swelling in the region. This allows for a shorter and more comfortable recovery period.

The Procedure

The endoscopic brow lift starts with a consultation with Dr. Gantous, who reviews the patient’s medical history, medications, and allergies to determine whether they are the right candidate for the procedure.

A treatment plan is created depending on the facial structure of the patient. In addition, the patient will be asked to stop taking blood thinners several days before the procedure.

On the day of the procedure, the treatment area is cleansed and the incision points are marked by Dr. Gantous. The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia or with IV sedation and local anesthesia.

Dr. Gantous makes three to five small incisions as per the treatment plan. These are made along the top of the scalp and a temple incision on each side. Usually, these incisions are made behind the hairline so that they are well hidden.

He then inserts an endoscope through an incision in the scalp. A specialized tool is used to gently elevate the forehead and brow tissues. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions are closed with surgical sutures.
